Wildcats Fall at Louisville 20-6

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville Cardinals (3-0) built a 12-3 halftime advantage and went on to defeat the Villanova Wildcats (1-2) 20-6 in a women's lacrosse game played on a mild Friday evening here.

Liz Lovejoy opened the scoring for the Cardinals 46 seconds into the contest when she tallied an unassisted goal. Two more unassisted goals by Louisville's Bergan Foley and Emily Dashiell extended the early lead to 3-0 before the game was four minutes old.

Senior Taylor Lucy got the Wildcats on the scoreboard at 24:19 to reduce the deficit to 3-1 for Villanova. But Liane Bobal responded by scoring the first two of her six goals on the evening to push the margin to 5-1. Sammy Allen netted another score for the Cards before Bobal scored again at 16:58 to make it 7-1.

Sophomore Rachel Lasda picked up an unassisted goal for the Wildcats to make it 7-2 before Bobal struck again to give the Cards an 8-2 edge. Freshman Triscia Shannon scored off a feed from Lucy at 12:55 to give Villanova its third goal of the night.

The Cardinals notched the final four goals of the final 12 minutes of the first half to make it 12-3 at the break.

Villanova's Sarah Berger got the first goal of the second half to shave the advantage to 12-4 before Louisville notched five straight goals to make it 17-4. Lucy scored at 11:31 and sophomore Erica Rybinski would complete the scoring for the Wildcats with an unassisted goal at 1:05.

The final count was 20-6.

Sophomore Maggie Langan played the first 30 minutes in goal for the Wildcats and made seven saves. She was relieved at the start of the second half by junior Cassie Eure, who finished with one save. Freshman Lauren Gallagher played the final 4:15 of the contest.

Louisville had a 33-21 advantage in shots and won the ground balls battle 30-21.

Villanova moves on to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m.
