Former Villanova swimmer Kristina Lennox is swimming at the 13th FINA World Championship meet this week in Rome, Italy. A former BIG EAST champion for the Wildcats and a 2007 graduate, Lennox continues to compete at the international level after also representing Puerto Rico at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
At this week's championships, Lennox swam in the 100 meter butterfly and 400 meter freestyle events during the opening day of competition on Sunday. In the 100 fly, she registered a time of 1:02.56 in preliminary heats and was ranked 60th out of 102 competitors. Lennox later swam in the 400 free and posted a time of 4:23.26 that ranked 41st out of 57 entries.

Lennox will next swim on Wednesday (July 29) in the preliminary heats of the women's 200 meter butterfly. Those heats take place during the morning session of racing and Lennox will swim in the third of six heats. Her qualifying time for the event is 2:17.29. There are a total of 53 swimmers racing in the preliminary heats of the event.

While swimming at Villanova from 2003-07, Lennox won an individual BIG EAST title in the 200 yard butterfly as a senior in 2007, when she notched a personal best time of 2:00.49 at the league's championship meet in East Meadow, N.Y. Lennox posted NCAA "B" qualifying marks in both the 100 yard butterfly and the 500 yard freestyle during the BIG EAST meet.
Lennox finished first in 18 starts in her Villanova career and holds the current pool record in the 100 yard butterfly at the Villanova Swim Center with a time of 56.08 set during a meet against Seton Hall during her junior season. It was the second time she had set the Villanova pool record, as she improved the standard of 56.75 that she had set a year earlier.
The 13th FINA World Championships are being held in Rome, with the swimming events taking place at Foro Italico. The world championships include competition in water polo, synchronized swimming, open water, diving and swimming. The swimming events began on Sunday (July 26) and end this coming Sunday (August 2).
