VILLANOVA, Pa. - It was a chilly start to the outdoor season as the women's track and field squad kicked off the outdoor season hosting a dual meet at the Jumbo Elliot Track. The Wildcats had four individual winners and multiple top-five finishes.
Ashlyn Llerandi cleared 12'-1.5" in the pole vault en route to winning the event by eight inches. Her height qualified her to the BIG EAST outdoor championships in May. Sophie Bru and Kimberly Logoyda cleared 10 feet and tied for third place.
Marie Minasi was victorious in the triple jump. Her jump of 11.15 meters was good enough for a first place finish. Erica Reijula and Alexandrio Reo had jumps of 10.93 meters and 10.56 meters, respectively.
In the javelin, Julia Arduini used a throw of 42.33 meters to take the event title. Her throw surpassed the second place finisher by five meters and qualified her to the conference championships.
Audrey Gariepy-Bogui cleared 1.63 meters in the high jump and was first in the event.
The Wildcats represented the squad well in the 1,500m run as Sarah Morrison claimed second place crossing the finish line in 4:44.30. Shannon Browne and Meghan Smith were fourth and fifth, respectively. Browne recorded a time of 4:48.14, while Smith clocked in at 4:54.69. Kaitlin O'Sullivan finished eighth in 5:03.64.
Jessona McDonald was the lone Wildcat in the 400m dash and she finished in 1:01.16 to earn fourth place.
In the 100m dash Villanova had two runners finish in the top-five. Leah Ray was second in 12.82 seconds and Ashley Dunbar was fifth clocking in at 12.98 seconds.
Kristen Mahon earned a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 400m hurdles after recording a time of 1:02.94 and was second. Shericka Ward narrowly missed a conference qualifying mark by .36 seconds, but was third in the event.
Dunbar and Ray were second and fourth, respectively, in the 200m dash. Dunbar recorded a time of 25.65 seconds and Ray finished in 26.34 seconds.
Villanova will compete this weekend at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary and at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational on Penn's campus.
