VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats reclaimed the top spot in Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25. Villanova began the season ranked No. 1 but fell to No. 2 following the season opening loss at Temple. Montana held the top spot last week before losing on Saturday to Cal Poly. The Wildcats are coming off an impressive 35-0 win at Lehigh.
Villanova earned 3,338 points and 74 first place votes to occupy the top spot. Appalachian State claims the second spot in the poll with 3,269 points and 25 first place votes, while James Madison is third with 3,100 points and 30 first place votes.
The CAA boasts seven teams in this week's top 25 including Villanova (No. 1), James Madison (No. 3), New Hampshire (No. 8), Richmond (No. 9), Delaware (No. 11), William & Mary (No. 12) and Massachusetts (No. 16).
Villanova opens up CAA play this Saturday when the Wildcats host Towson on Saturday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
