McLaughlin Final Round Results
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Villanova senior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.) finished tied for first place this weekend at The McLaughlin Invitational held at Bethpage State Park's Red Course. Kelly fired a 66-69-72--207 (-3) to share the individual title with Johnson & Wales' Josh Briere. It was the second individual championship for the senior in his career.
As a team, VU finished third with a total score of 845 (+5). The team has fired out of the gate strong this fall season with two top-five finishes as a squad. The Wildcats finished only seven shots back of the leading team, West Florida, who finished with a composite score of 838 (-3).
Rounding out the top five for Villanova were junior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) (67-73-70--210; E), senior Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) (73-70-69--212; +2), sophomore Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) (73-72-72--217; +7), and freshman Robbie Galbreath (Huntington Valley, Pa.) (73-72-76--221; +11), which placed the individuals tied for 12th, 17th, 38th, and 60th place, respectively.
Also competing for Villanova were junior Bret McGaughey (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and freshman Joe Carlson (Inverness, Ill.). McGaughey finished tied for 23rd with a 72-72-69--213 (+3) and Carlson was tied for 48th with a 71-75-73--219 (+9).
Villanova will start the Adams Cup of Newport this coming Monday and Tuesday in Newport, R.I.
