VILLANOVA, PA.-- The Villanova Wildcats tallied a 78-38 win over the visiting Bloomsburg Huskies in an exhibition game played on Monday evening at The Pavilion.
Freshman guard Caroline Coyer connected on two three-point field goals to propel Villanova on a 15-5 run early in the first half. The run increased Villanova's 5-4 lead to a 20-9 advantage at the 10:54 mark.
Villanova would score eight of the game's next 10 points to take a 28-11 lead with 7:32 to play in the first half. The eight points included three-point field goals by Emily Suhey and Lauren Burford and a lay-up by Laura Sweeney.
The Wildcats would make nine first half three's and go to intermission with a 39-17 lead. Coyer led the way in the first stanza with nine points, followed by junior Devon Kane who added seven points.
Six different Wildcats scored as Villanova started the second half with a 13-5 spurt to open up a 52-22 lead. The Wildcats would lead by as many as 40 in the second half and cruise to the win.
Coyer led Villanova with a game-high 15 points to go with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kane added 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists, while Sweeney and sophomore center Emily Leer chipped in with nine points.
Bloomsburg was paced by Catherine Noack with nine points.
In the win, Villanova shot 41.7 percent from the field (25-of-60), 37.8 percent from three-point range (14-of-37) and 66.7 percent from the foul line (14-of-21), while the Huskies were 13-of-51 from the field (25.5%), 6-of-27 from long distance (22.2%) and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe (85.7%). Villanova owned a 41-34 advantage on the backboards.
Villanova will travel to Las Vegas for the Thanksgiving holiday to participate in the Lady Rebel Round-Up Tournament. The Wildcats will play Bowling Green in the first round on Saturday, Nov. 24. UNLV will play Montana in the other first round game.
