Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. - In a rain-soaked battle at the Ridley Athletic Complex, the Villanova women's lacrosse squad (4-10, 2-4) fell to No. 14 Loyola, 20-9 on Sunday afternoon.

Villanova had eight players score at least one goal as senior Justine Donodeo led with two goals. Juniors Maria Bowman and Annie Fallon, sophomores Ali Judge and Caroline Guidera and freshmen Jessica Mucci, Hannah Goforth and Elise Bendinelli each recorded one goal in the game.

Fallon helped out all over the field as she handed out two assists, had three ground balls, won two draw controls and forced one caused turnover. Donodeo had two draw controls and sophomore Amy Begay recorded three caused turnovers.

Villanova got on the board first as Bowman scored just three minutes in to the game. The Greyhounds (10-4, 6-0)answered, but Fallon scored with 19:59 left in the half and the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead. Loyola scored three unanswered goals and took a 4-2 lead, but Guidera found the back of the net after Donodeo won the draw control to close within 4-3.

The Greyhounds committed a foul, which set up a free position shot for Villanova as Bendinelli scored her goal at the 13:50 mark in the first half to tie the game at 4-4. Loyola went on a 7-0 run to close out the first half leading 11-4.

Loyola scored first to open the second half, but at 27:15 Judge scored after an assist from Ali Brandenburg as the Greyhounds led 12-5.

Donodeo and Goforth scored on back-to-back goals to close the gap to 14-7, but Villanova scored only twice as th Greyhounds finished the game on a 6-2 run to remain undefeated in conference play.

In goal Dani Wiedmeier took the loss and had two saves, while Amanda Hirschfeld tallied three saves in 27 minutes.

Villanova will travel to Connecticut and Syracuse next weekend to conclude the regular season.
