Weakly Earns BIG EAST and Philadelphia Soccer Six Honors

Oct. 21, 2013

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior goalkeeper Andrew Weakly came up with a big effort in goal on Saturday night in Omaha, Neb., to help spark the Wildcats to a 1-0 win over Creighton. On Monday he was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper and Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week.

"Weakly made three huge saves for us," noted Villanova head coach Tom Carlin, whose Wildcats improved to 7-6-1 with the victory over the Bluejays.

Weakly (Snohomish, Wash.) is one reason the Wildcats have strung together 286:38 minutes of shutout soccer. The 'Cats knocked off No. 22 St. John's on Oct. 12 on West Campus with Weakly in goal and then followed that with a 1-0 win over Lehigh on Oct. 15 with freshman Mike Barr spelling Weakly in his first college start.

On Saturday, though, Weakly came up large late and helped keep the game scoreless until forward Dylan Renna registered the game-winner at 99:28.

The Wildcats look to extend their shutout stretch on Wednesday when they host Providence (8-3-2 overall, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) in a key conference match at 3:00 p.m.
