Wildcats Impress at Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova rowing team returned to the water this weekend when the Wildcats made a short trek to compete at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta Saturday in Philadelphia.

The Wildcats had two boats in the Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice Fours with Cox event and finished eighth and 10th out of 25 squads. (Cox) Kathleen Boyce joined (bow) Jillian Labetti, Eileen Maysek, Fabiana Espino and (stroke) Jackie Denning to finish eighth with a time of 19:55.45, which was 15 seconds better than their teammates (bow) Megan Enright, Remington Barrer, Emily Lenane, (stroke) Maria McGeary and (cox) Katrina Bertrand in the other boat.

In the Women's College and Open Fours with Cox, Villanova placed 11th and 14th out 40 squads (bow) Caroline McCaughey, Lauren Woodhull, Clare Keating, (stroke) Alanna McCloy and (cox) Laura Saracina were impressive as they finished the race in 17:39.15. While (bow) Kiera McCloy, Heather Kittredge, Melanie McDonough, (stroke) Kelly O'Conor and (cox) Gabriella DeLorenzo were 10 seconds shy of their teammates.

Villanova looked stellar in the Women's College Frosh/Novice Eights race. (Bow) Grace Carbajal, Jennifer Ryan, Mollie McMahon, Colleen Lavelle, Breanna Vitolo, Kaitlyn Carter, Luisa Nitzschke, (stroke) Alexandra Yanoff and (cox) Margaret Cavanaugh put on a wonderful performance and finished in eighth place out of 36 squads with a time of 17:09.87.

The Villlanova "B" boat completed the Women's College and Heavy Championship Eights final in 17:16.37, good for 15th place with (bow) Caroline McCaughey, Lauren Woodhull, Clare Keating, Jennifer DeCata, Kiera McCloy, Alanna McCloy, Melanie McDonough, (stroke) Kelly O'Conor and (cox) Laura Saracina headlining the boat.

The other Wildcats crew consisting of (bow) Grace Carbajal, Katelyn Carter, Heather Kittredge, Jennifer Ryan, Alexandra Yanoff, Megan Clarke, Carie Ewen, (stroke) Cecilia Franko and (cox) Gabriella DeLorenzo finished 20th with a time of 18:29.00.

Villanova will enjoy a couple of months off before its fall season starts in March at the Rollins Invitational in Winter Park, Fla.
