Chapman Wins 5000 Meters at Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. - Sophomore distance runners Courtney Chapman (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Megan Venables (Laurel Springs, N.J.) finished first and second, respectively, in the 5000 meters as Villanova competed in two events on the first night of the Widener Invitational at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium on Friday night.

Chapman paced a field of 37 runners with a time of 17:24.47 in her first collegiate 5000 meters race. Venables came in second with a time of 17:39.40 and senior Megan Smith (Newark, Del.) was close behind in fifth place with a time of 17:56.18.

Freshman thrower Alita Ostapkovich (Bensalem, Pa.) competed in the shot put and registered a personal best distance of 11.35 meters, surpassing a mark of 10.89 meters that she had set in high school. Ostapkovich came in seventh out of 25 competitors.
