Oct. 24, 2014 VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats celebrated the start of a new basketball season in grand style on Friday night at Hoops Mania 2014 before an overflow crowd inside the Pavilion. Among the highlights of the night were the presentation of the 2014 BIG EAST Championship rings to members of the 2013-14 men's squad that posted a 29-5 record last season and the introduction of the 2014-15 editions of the men's and women's Villanova teams.
Later, the White defeated the Blue 15-13 in a short scrimmage as sophomore forward Kris Jenkins sank a game-winning 3-point goal. The game was played to 15 as though it were a practice session.
The night concluded with a musical performance by ScHoolBoy Q.
The Villanova women's team, which finished with a 23-9 record last season, also was part of the festivities as it was introduced to the audience to help open the event.
Wildcats sophomore forward Darryl Reynolds led the winning team in Villanova's version of "Dancing with the Stars", earning 29 of a possible 30 points from the judges. He was accompanied by Kristin Wells, Emily Jendra and Alexis Bernard from the Villanova Dance Team.
Other standout work in the scrimmage was turned in by senior forward JayVaughn Pinkston (six points) for the Blue squad and junior Dylan Ennis (five points) for the White side.
