Providence, R.I. -The Villanova volleyball team improved to 12-15, 5-7 BIG EAST after a three set win agains Providence (4-21, 0-11 BIG EAST) on a Halloween Friday night. The Wildcats overtook the Friars in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-13. Villanova will be back in action tomorrow night to take on the St. John's Red Storm (16-10, 5-6 BIG EAST) at the Taffner Field House on Saturday Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., and the match will be available via radio broadcast on RedStormSports.com.
"We played pretty clean volleyball tonight," said Head Coach Josh Steinbach. "It's always good to win on the road and I think we have put ourselves in a good position for a big match tomorrow."
The Wildcats offense was led by junior outside hitter Lauren Carpenter who posted her best hitting percentage of the season and her career posting a .522 (13 kills, one error on 23 attempts). Her heavy hitting also earned her the second best hitting percentage in a match for the Wildcats this season.
"Lauren had a great night tonight," said Steinbach. "I am looking forward to her breaking her 1000 record kill this season. We also saw a great game from Brittany Rembert and Claire Crutchfield."
Sophomore Claire Crutchfield and junior Brittany Rembert also posted accurate hitting posting .462 and .417 respectively. Crutchfield logged seven kills with one error on 13 attempts while Rembert posted six kills with error on 12 attempts.
Sophomore Michaela Berendt posted 8 kills with two errors on 17 attempts to help lead the Wildcats to victory.
Junior Emma Pettit posted 20 assists for the Wildcats this evening while senior Allie DiBernardo posted 16.
Starting junior libero Michelle Adams added 18 digs to her score sheet.
The Wildcats in total put 43 kills, 13 errors, 103 total attempts, a .291 attack percentage, 39 assists, six service aces, 52 digs and six team blocks.
