CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Villanova women's and men's swimming and diving teams completed day one at the three-day H2Okie Fall Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech in Christiansburg, Va. The women sit in fourth place out of seven with 146 points. The men are currently in fifth place with 73 points. Virginia Tech leads the women's (420 points) and men's (422) fields.
WOMEN
Villanova's performance was highlighted by sophomore Emily Mayo's (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) 4:47.56 in the 500 freestyle, the first individual NCAA `B' cut for the Wildcats this season. She finished second in the event out of 24 swimmers.
Freshman Caitlin Daday (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) touched the wall at 4:53.14 during the 500 free for her best time on the year, clipping her pervious time of 4:56.41 from the Quad Meet two weekends ago.
Junior Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Iukio) and senior Katrin Heider (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Herkenrath) both set best season times in the 50 freestyle with finishes of 23.54 and 23.65, respectively.
The Villanova 200 free relay squad set a new-best time for the 2014-15 campaign when Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England/Bournemouth School), sophomore Jessica Randolph (Davie, Fla./American Heritage), Kollanus and Heider came in fifth at 1:33.72.
Freshman Gabby Daigneault (Montreal, Quebec/William H. Hall) finished the 200 IM at 2:03.69. Randolph and Hardie finished with times of 2:04.56 and 2:05.79. The times were all tops for each individual on the year.
The women closed out day one with a 10th place finish in the 400 medley relay when Daigneault, freshman Heather Farley (Mendota Heights, Minn./Convent of the Visitation), Hardie and Heider completed the event in 3:46.50.
MEN
The Wildcat men opened the event with an eighth place finish in the 200 free relay behind freshman Joe Moleski (Tucson, Ariz./Bishop Guertin), senior Chris Tamanini (Kingston Twp., Pa./Dallas), sophomore Mike Rodriguez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and senior Jason Moyer's (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) time of 1:24.27.
Sophomores Harrison Rodts (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and Greg Cino (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) along with freshman John Paul Naughton (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) each set season-best marks in the 500 freestyle at 4:40.01, 4:43.06 and 4:46.75, respectively.
Moyer reduced about half a second off his 50 free time when he touch the wall at 21.06 during the finals. Moleski followed him up at 21.44. Both times were tops on the year for the senior and freshman.
The men finished the day with a 12th place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:26.80 from Rodriguez, freshman Tyler Nussbaum (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Chaminade), freshman Logan Ziegler (Mechanicsville, Va./Maggie L. Walker) and Moyer.

Friday's events consist of the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, women's three-meter dive, men's one-meter dive and the 800 freestyle relay.
The final day of the invitational, Saturday, will begin with the 1650 freestyle followed by the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's platform dive, men's platform dive and will finish at the conclusion of the 400 freestyle relay.
All events will be conducted with preliminary events followed by the finals with the exception of relays and the 1650 freestyle.
The Christiansburg Aquatic Center features a 25-yard, eight-lane competition course. The facility is equipped with a Colorado timing system, two digital scoreboards, Paddock starting blocks with relay judging platforms and adjustable foot wedges. The warm-up/warm-down pool is located adjacent to the competition pool. Diving apparatus include full platform, two one-meter boards, and two three-meter boards, all mounted on cement blocks.
