CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The Villanova women's and men's swimming and diving teams completed day two of the three-day H2Okie Fall Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech in Christiansburg, Va., on Friday evening. The women are currently in fourth place with 292 points out the seven-team field. The men are in fifth place with 147 points. Virginia Tech, Alabama and South Carolina rank first, second and third, respectively, for both the women and men. The Wildcats close out the meet tomorrow, Sat., Nov. 21 with preliminary races starting at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.

WOMEN
The women earned a 12th place finish in the 200 medley relay to open competition on Friday when freshman Gabby Daigneault (Montreal, Quebec/William H. Hall), freshman Heather Farley (Mendota Heights, Minn./Convent of the Visitation), junior Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England/Bournemouth School) and senior Katrin Heider (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Herkenrath) clocked in at 1:44.79.

In the 400 IM, Daigneault earned an eight place finish in the A Final at 4:30.16. Freshman Christine Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) finished at 4:31.47 in the B Final while freshman Sara Nicolosi (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) touched the wall at 4:31.12 in the C Final.

Hardie swam a 55.63 in the 100 fly B Final. Sophomore Kristin Haufler (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) finished at 56.76 in the C Final.

Sophomore Emily Mayo (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) earned a fourth place mark in the 200 free A Final at 1:49.61. Heider clocked a 1:49.19 in the B Final for Villanova.

In the 100 back, Daigneault finished a 56.39 in the B Final.

The women closed the evening with an eight place 800 free relay finish. Freshman Caitlin Daday (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), sophomore Erin Merkle (York, Pa./York Suburban), junior Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Iukio) and Daigneault came in at 7:31.45

MEN
The men opened Friday's competition with a ninth place finish in the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Mike Rodriguez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), freshman Tyler Nussbaum (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Chaminade), freshman Jake Hoin (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and senior Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) came in at 1:33.02.

Junior Nikolai Tchobanov (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster High School) clocked a 4:11.82 in the C Final for the 400 IM.

In the 100 fly, Hoin finished at 51.42 in the C Final while Moyer swam a 1:43.08 in the 200 free C Final.

Nussbaum finished at 58.92 in the 100 breast C Final; senior Tony Sipala (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) came in right behind him at 59.54.

In the 100 back, Rodriguez and Moyer each swam 51.31 and 51.37, respectively.

The men closed out the night with a tenth place finish in the 800 free relay behind sophomore Greg Cino (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro), junior Pat Sullivan (Lowell, Mass./Lowell), junior Murphy Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and Moyer at 7:04.79.

TO COME AT THE H2OKIE INVITATIONAL
The final day of the invitational, Saturday, will begin with the 1650 freestyle followed by the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's platform dive, men's platform dive and will finish at the conclusion of the 400 freestyle relay.

The Christiansburg Aquatic Center features a 25-yard, eight-lane competition course. The facility is equipped with a Colorado timing system, two digital scoreboards, Paddock starting blocks with relay judging platforms and adjustable foot wedges. The warm-up/warm-down pool is located adjacent to the competition pool. Diving apparatus include full platform, two one-meter boards, and two three-meter boards, all mounted on cement blocks.
