Nov. 22, 2014

Recap | Box Score | Quotes

  • Villanova has won eight of the last nine meetings with Delaware, including seven of the eight games since the rivalry gained the Battle of the Blue billing. With the victory, the Wildcats are now 26-21-1 all-time against the Blue Hens and have won five straight games at Delaware Stadium. Villanova head coach Andy Talley is 15-12 in his career versus Delaware.
  • The game concluded the regular season for the Wildcats, who are currently 10-2 overall and went 7-1 in conference play. This is the sixth time that Villanova has won at least 10 games in a season, and the fourth time that the Wildcats have reached 10 wins during the regular season. Three of the six Villanova seasons with a double-digit win total have come in the last seven years (2008, 2009, 2014).
  • This season is the fourth time that the Wildcats have had zero or one loss in conference play. Villanova previously went 8-0 in the Atlantic 10 in 1997 and had just one conference loss in 1991 and during the 2009 national championship season.
  • Both teams were heavily penalized in the game. The Wildcats were whistled for six plays totaling 76 yards, while the Blue Hens were called for eight penalties adding up to 75 yards.
  • Junior quarterback John Robertson has led four career game-winning drives in which Villanova scored a game-winning touchdown on its final possession while trailing in the final minute of the game. The four game-winning drives came this season against William & Mary and Delaware, as well as last year versus the same two teams.
  • John Robertson ran for over 100 yards for the third straight week, the fourth time this season and the 14th time in his career. He had 23 carries for 117 yards to increase his season total to 978 rushing yards and his career total to 3,405 yards. Robertson needs to rush for 22 more yards to tally his third straight season with over 1,000 yards on the ground.
  • John Robertson registered his seventh game of the season with at least three passing touchdowns, and his eighth game with 300 or more yards of total offense. Robertson needs 44 more yards of total offense to reach 10,000 career yards.
  • Senior running back Kevin Monangai had a career-high three touchdowns in the game, including two rushing touchdown and one touchdown reception. Monangai had previously scored two touchdowns in a game on seven occasions during his career, including three times this season.
  • Senior wide receiver Poppy Livers had six receptions for 102 yards in the game. He tallied his fourth career 100-yard receiving game and his third this season. Livers also moved up one spot to 13th place on the all-time Villanova receiving list with 1,665 career yards. He trails former teammate Norman White (2008-12) by 122 yards for 12th place.
  • Junior linebacker Dillon Lucas recorded his first career interception late in the second quarter and returned it 72 yards to the Delaware two-yard line. The 72-yard interception return is tied for the eighth-longest in school history, and is the longest Wildcats interception return since a 72-yard return by Brian Barajas against Richmond on October 26, 1996. It is the second-longest interception return and tied for the eighth-longest return of any kind in school history that did not result in a touchdown.
  • Junior linebacker Don Cherry recorded a game-high 10 tackles. He has now reached double figures in tackles six times this season.
