Nov. 26, 2014 NEW YORK - Villanova sophomore Emily Mayo (Centennial, Colo/Arapahoe) was named the BIG EAST Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week on Wed., Nov. 26. The news was released a BIG EAST Conference press release.
The Wildcats are fresh off a fourth place finish at the H2Okie Fall Invitational in Christiansburg, Va.
The `Nova sophomore earned the VU women's first individual NCAA B cut time when she touched the wall of the 500 freestyle A Final at 4:47.56 for the second place finish.
Mayo also finished fourth in both the 200 freestyle A Final and 1650 freestyle Final at 1:49.61 and 16:44.03, respectively.
The Colorado native helped Villanova earn a third place finish in the 800 freestyle relay, swimming the third leg with sophomore Jessica Randolph (Davie, Fla./American Heritage), sophomore Mary Snyder (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and senior Katrin Heider (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Herkenrath).
The Wildcats finished fourth in the seven-school field in Christiansburg, Va. over the weekend with 407 points behind Virginia Tech (1333), Alabama (821) and South Carolina (611.5). William & Mary (348.5), Ohio (270) and Liberty (133) rounded out the field.
This comes as the fourth award for Villanova this season after freshman Gabby Daigneault (Montreal, Quebec/William H. Hall) earned the award on Oct. 28, junior Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England/Bournemouth School) on Nov. 4 and senior Sara Jurek (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler) on Nov. 11. The Wildcat women have earned the conference honor in all four weeks of its participation this fall.
