GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Villanova women's swimming team concluded its participation in Thursday's events at the USA Winter National Championships after the morning preliminary races. The women did not qualify for the Thursday evening finals and will now look towards Friday morning's prelim races.

Seven Wildcats represented Villanova on Thursday in Greensboro, N.C.

Freshman Gabby Daigneault (Montreal, Quebec/William H. Hall), junior Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England/Bournemouth School) and senior Sara Jurek (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler) each competed in the 200 IM. Daigneault finished top for `Nova with a time of 2:05.84. Hardie came in at 2:06.22 and Jurek at 2:09.02. Twelve swimmers qualified for each of the A, B and C finals. Time below 1:59.85 qualified for A, below 2:00.53 for B and 2:00.79 for C.

Sophomore Emily Mayo (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) touched the wall of the 500 free at 4:51.95 to lead the `Cats. Freshman Caitlin Daday (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) finished closely after at 4:53.06 and sophomore Erin Merkle touched at 5:03.53. Times below 4:43.37 qualified for the A Final, 4:45.40 for the B Final and 4:47.40 for the C Final.

Junior Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Iukio) and Hardie competed for VU in the 50 free. Kollanus finished with a time of 23.91 while Hardie came in at 24.03. The qualifying times for the A, B and C finals were 22.73, 22.97 and 23.11.

The Wildcats will now regroup for Friday morning's preliminary races in hopes of reaching the evening finals.
