  • Villanova advances to the quarterfinal round of the Division I Football Championship and will face Sam Houston State next week. The date, time and location of the game are yet to be announced.
  • This is the sixth time in school history and fourth time since 2008 that the Wildcats have advanced to at least the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. Villanova is now 11-9 (.550) all-time in the Division I Football Championship, including 8-1 (.889) at home.
  • Tonight's victory marks the third time this season that the Wildcats won a game on their final possession. Villanova went ahead for good on Robertson's one-yard touchdown run with 1:12 remaining. Earlier this season, Robertson completed touchdown passes to junior wide receiver Kevin Gulyas in the final minute of play during wins over William & Mary (35-31) and Delaware (35-28).
  • Wildcats junior quarterback John Robertson set a school record for career yards of total offense during the game. He finished the night with 317 yards of total offense and now has 10,273 career yards. He broke the old mark of 10,146 yards held by Chris Boden (1996-99).
  • Robertson and Gulyas connected for the longest pass play in Villanova history in the second quarter. The record-setting pass was an 87-yard completion on 2nd-and-18 from the Wildcats own 8-yard line. Robertson also found Gulyas for a 70-yard touchdown with 13:17 left in the fourth quarter which tied the score at 22-22. Previously, the longest pass play in school history was an 84-yard play from Chris Whitney to Phil Atkinson against Rhode Island on October 18, 2008.
  • Gulyas racked up a career-high 157 receiving yards and his only two catches came on the two big pass plays. This is the 24th time in school history that a Villanova player has had at least 150 receiving yards in a game. His total tonight is the most receiving yards by a Wildcats player since John Dieser had 182 yards against William & Mary on October 29, 2005.
  • Robertson and senior running back Kevin Monangai each ran for 100 yards during the game. Monangai had 102 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Robertson rushed 18 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Robertson moved into second place in school history with 270 career points, while Monangai moved into third place on the all-time Villanova rushing list with 3,001 career yards.
  • Liberty finishes the season with a 9-5 overall record. The Flames were making their first-ever appearance in the FCS playoffs after winning the Big South Conference automatic bid on the final day of the regular season (with a 15-14 win over previously unbeaten Coastal Carolina).
  • Liberty wide receiver Darrin Peterson set a single-season school record for receptions during the game. He had five receptions for 103 yards in the game and finished the year with a school-record 85 catches for 1,379 yards and 12 touchdowns.
  • Villanova is 4-1 all-time against the Flames. Tonight's meeting was the first between the schools since a 16-13 win by the Wildcats on September 9, 1994.
  • Villanova has never played Sam Houston State.
