Villanova Travels for Friday Matchup at Marquette

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova will travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., on Friday, Jan. 30, to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. eastern time. The Wildcats enter play with a 12-9 overall record and a 6-3 Big East mark, while Marquette is 4-16 overall and 0-9 in league play.

When Villanova and Marquette play on Friday evening, it will be the fifth time in the last two seasons that two teams have met. Villanova swept the season series last year from the Golden Eagles winning at Marquette on Dec. 31, 2013 (63-61) and at home on March 4, 2014 (81-64). Marquette defeated the Wildcats in the Big East Tournament on March 8, 2014, by a score of 56-53. The Wildcats won the first meeting this year with a 68-48 victory at Villanova on Jan. 4. Marquette leads the all-time series by an 8-6 count.

The Wildcats will play the next three games on the road. After playing at Marquette on Friday, Jan. 30, Villanova will travel to DePaul on Sunday, Feb. 1. Villanova will conclude the three-game road trip at Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Wildcats are 4-4 in away games this season.

For her efforts in three games last week, Villanova junior guard Caroline Coyer was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll, in addition to being named the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week. In the three contests versus Penn, Seton Hall and St. John's, Coyer averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.3 assists per contest and 4.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.9 percent from the field (18-of-34) and 47.6 percent from three-point range (10-of-21).

Villanova is led in scoring by senior center Emily Leer who is averaging 12.8 points per game and Coyer who is averaging 12.2 points per contest. Coyer also leads the team in minutes played (34.5) and assists (96). Senior forward Taylor Holeman leads the Wildcats in rebounding at 5.4 rebounds per contest.
