William & Mary Head Coach Jimmye Laycock

Opening Statement

"I thought we played a good game, and I thought we played very well. I'm just glad we didn't make any excuses about road trips, the tough game last week, this and that. Instead, our players went to work this week and they focused very hard on this ball game. They wanted to play well and they got after it. We played well.

Q: Jimmye what changed for your there in the second quarter?

A: Laycock: "They got a couple of scores. That tailback reverse and all that crazy stuff. They caught a guy napping a bit and made some plays. We started to throw the football pretty well, and next thing you know we are getting them. The interception DeAndre...I don't think there was one thing in particular that turned it around. We just kept playing. We were confident and had confidence in ourselves."

Q: Kendell's [Anderson] run seemed to have given you a big boost too?

A: "Well, he's a pretty good runner. How was that one? 71 yards? That will tend to boost you up a bit."

Q: Coach, how are they [Villanova] different without John Robertson?

A: "I don't know if he would have made a difference. The way we got after them. The pressure we got on them. I give their quarterback credit for hanging in there. He got hit a few times. We've been there and done that plenty of times I promise you as far as with people out and things like that. You play with who you got and do the best you can."

Q: Can you talk about the afternoon from junior quarterback Steve Cluley?

A: "Well, I though Steve did a nice job. He was 16-28 for 267 yards. That's pretty good there. He got a couple of hits. He got that one late hit that shook him up a bit. He was alright. Steve runs our offense and does a nice job. He's a competitor and players believe in him."

Head coach Andy Talley opening statement:

We obviously are not where we need to be to win in this league right now. We have some inadequacies on the offensive side of the ball and we aren't very good on third downs, and a lot of times we leave our defense on the field. I don't' think we played well on either side of the ball.

I thought our tackling wasn't very good today. There backs are really good backs and you have to tackle them, and we knew that coming in and I don't think we tackled well.

We gave them 21 points really, the reception they ran back for a touchdown, we had the one play that both of our backs ran into each other and they went in and scored. Then we gave them a cheap touchdown run where he broke three tackles. We handed them the 21 points. The game had a chance to be closer if we didn't do some of those things.

We are not ready to win in the CAA right now. We are still trying to piece our offense together; Zach needs a lot more work and he needs to play better. Defensively we need to stop people on third downs.

All and all not a very good game for us.

What are the most pressing issues on offense, and are the fixable?

Talley: I think the most pressing issue for us right now is getting Zach more experience, and try to come up with an offensive line that will be more cohesive. We were able to keep those five guys on the field for the first time together and now going into the second game with the same group together. That is the offensive side of the ball.

Defensive side of the ball is a little disappointing at this junction of the season because I thought that we were better. There is a rhythm we haven't been able to develop yet, where the offense feeds off the defense and the defense feeds off the offense. We just don't have that right now, but I think as times goes on we better get better at it or we are going to have trouble winning games.

Zach what do you see that you need to fix and improve on?

Zach Bednarczyk: To eliminate turnovers, just try not to do to much with one play and try to get the down, and not force the ball down the field. That will come with reps in practice and during the game I think.

You seem to have a lot of luck in the first quarter and they explode for 21 points in the second quarter what turned there in there favor?

Tonah Kpassagnon: Some guys were missing assignments sometimes and tackling like coach said we need to work on that. I feel like our guys had a lot of heart, guys like Austin Calitro and Reggie (Paris) are out there making sure everyone is up. We didn't give up.
