Another Electric Hoops Mania Rocks the Pavilion

Oct. 23, 2015

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Villanova Wildcats celebrated the start of a new season on Friday night at the Pavilion with Hoops Mania 2015. The men's and women's teams were both introduced to a packed house filled mostly with students from the Nova Nation.

The evening was capped off by a musical performance by nationally known recording artist Big Sean.

Villanova celebrated its 2014-15 BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships. Former team captain JayVaughn Pinkston, who graduated in May after a four year career as a key starter for the Wildcats, was greeted by thunderous applause and chants of "J.V.P" from the sold-out audience. Pinkston is currently sidelined after suffering a torn ACL while training with the Brooklyn Nets last summer.

Pinkston and the returning members of that squad all received their BIG EAST championship rings. Newcomers Tim Delaney, Eric Paschall, Donte DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson were introduced as they made their Hoops Mania debuts. Delaney is currently sidelined after undergoing successful hip surgery on Oct. 14.

The on-court basketball action began with a 3-point shooting contest featuring participants from a campus sorority, a campus fraternity, the Women's Basketball team and the Men's Team. Team Jenkins, captained by Kris Jenkins, emerged victorious on the strength of a lights-out long distance shooting performance by Megan Quinn of the Wildcats.

A intra-squad scrimmage was held as well, with the Blue edging the White 16-14 as Henry Lowe sank the game-winning 3-pointer from the left corner on the final play. Josh Hart led all scorers with 10 points for the Blue unit while classmate Kris Jenkins contributed nine points for the White team.

Streamers flooded the court after a dunk by Eric Paschall opened the Scrimmage.

The basketball portion of the evening concluded with a dunk contest featuring Paschall, Mikal Bridges, DiVincenzo and Darryl Reynolds. DiVincenzo was proclaimed the winner after defeating Paschall in the Final.

Then after a short interlude, Big Sean added his name to an impressive list of Hoops Mania entertainers that also includes Drake, 50 Cent, Nicki Minaj and last year's guest, ScHoolboy Q.

The Villanova men will see their first live action on Sunday, Nov. 8, when they host Pace in an exhibition contest at the Wells Fargo Center.
