  • Villanova hosted Maine on the first league-wide "Be The Match Saturday," which recognized the partnership between CAA Football and Be The Match, the organization which manages the world's largest and most diverse registry of potential bone marrow donors. Coaches and other sideline personnel wore Be The Match patches and the nationally-televised broadcast on NBC Sports Network educated viewers about the Be The Match mission and how to join the registry.
  • Villanova seniors Jake Prus and Jacob Gribb were honorary team captains who took the field for the pre-game coin toss. Both players made donations of peripheral blood stem cells to patients in need earlier this season. Prus and Gribb each joined the bone marrow donor registry as freshmen during an annual registry drive on campus. Wildcats head coach Andy Talley has been involved with Be The Match for more than 20 years.
  • Villanova improved to 36-12 (.750) at Villanova Stadium since the start of the 2007 season.
  • Prior to Villanova winning tonight's game, the visiting team had won the previous five head-to-head meetings between the Wildcats and Maine. The last win by a home team in the series had come when Villanova defeated the Black Bears, 24-17 in overtime, in the 2007 home opener. Tonight's win by the Wildcats also snapped a tie in the all-time series. Villanova now leads the series by a 10-9 margin and is 6-4 in home games versus Maine.
  • In their last three games, the Wildcats have gone a combined 25-of-42 (59.5%) on third down, including a 9-of-15 (60.0%) showing against the Black Bears. Villanova is now 49-of-108 (45.4%) on third down for the season. The last three games have raised the Wildcats conversion percentage from 36.4 percent to 45.4 percent.
  • Villanova has held the opposition without a touchdown in two of its last three games, including a 37-0 win at Albany on October 17 and tonight's 13-3 win over Maine. Through eight games this season, the Wildcats are allowing just 17.6 points per game and have held their opponents to 303.5 yards of total offense per contest.
  • Villanova has played stifling defense in the red zone this season. Through eight games, the Wildcats opponents have scored on just 12-of-23 (52 percent) of possessions in the red zone. Villanova has allowed just eight touchdowns on those 23 red zone possessions (35 percent). The Wildcats have made two interceptions and recovered two fumbles in the red zone.
  • Redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk ran for a career-high 123 yards on 18 carries, including a 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Bednarczyk had averaged just 3.2 yards per carry while running for 139 total yards in the first seven games of his career before breaking out to average 6.8 yards per rush against Maine. He also was 12-of-21 passing for 143 yards and a touchdown. The only previous game in which he had both a passing and a rushing touchdown was in his first career game at quarterback against Delaware, when he entered for an injured John Robertson in the fourth quarter and led two scoring drives in a come-from-behind victory.
