Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova women's (5-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) and men's (0-4, 0-2 BIG EAST) swimming and diving teams return to action Saturday, as they're set to face the Penn Quakers at 1:00 p.m.
The meet was originally going to be held at Villanova, but will now be held at Penn due to the ongoing construction project and other campus events.
The women had a strong performance defeating the Scarlet Knights last Saturday 198-153. The Wildcats also beat Georgetown, 264-83, and Seton Hall, 261-86.
Head coach Rick Simpson expects a challenging meet Saturday, but he is confident in the group that he has.
"They're going to give us everything we can possibly handle," Simpson said. "They [Penn] have really taken some pretty big jumps. They're very deep and the Ivy League, especially on the women's side, is a very good swimming conference. We're going to have to bring our "A" game without a doubt. I think the meet will ultimately come down to the last relay."
Freshman Darby Goodwin (Jupiter, Fla./ The Pine School) picked up her fifth individual victory of the year in the 200 back as she upset Rutgers' Joanna Wu 2:01.27 to 2:01.79. Wu was an NCAA All-American last year in that event.
Goodwin was named the Women's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for her efforts. This was the second time this season she has won the award.
The men also competed at Rutgers last weekend, but fell to Georgetown, 257-96, and Seton Hall, 266-85.
The Villanova women have 84 individual first through third finishes across five meets. The men have 43 individual top-three finishes through four meets.
A look at Penn
The men's team opened up their 2015-16 season last weekend with a narrow 175-117 victory over UMBC. Two swimmers to watch for the Quakers are Eric Schultz and Kyle Yu.
Schultz had wins in the 50 and 100 free, while Yu took home first place in the 100 breast with a time of 58.01.
The Quaker women had wins over Columbia (176-125) and UMBC (173-127) last weekend.
Sophomore Virginia Burns notched wins in the 100, 200, and 500 free against the Lions. Burns would add two more wins last Saturday against UMBC as she captured both the 200 and 500 free.
Burns was named Ivy League Swimmer of Week by CollegeSwimming.com for her performance.
