Recap | Box Score | Quotes | Photo Gallery

  • Villanova defeated its second ranked team of the season with a 21-20 win over No. 9 Richmond. The victory improved the Wildcats all-time record versus top-10 opponents to 25-25, including 17-10 (.630) at home. Villanova has tallied 14 wins over top-10 foes since the start of the 2008 season and is now 58-67 (.464) all-time against all ranked opponents.
  • The game against Richmond was part of Homecoming Weekend and the Wildcats are now 33-18 (.647) all-time in Homecoming games, including 7-2 (.778) when Homecoming Weekend falls during the month of November. This is the third time that the Spiders have been the Homecoming opponent for Villanova. Prior to this season, the Wildcats had not played a November Homecoming game since 1996 when they defeated Rhode Island, 34-16 on November 2, 1996.
  • Villanova is 37-12 (.755) at Villanova Stadium since the start of the 2007 season. That record includes a 3-2 mark during the 2015 season, with the three wins coming over Delaware, Maine and Richmond.
  • With the 21-20 victory over the Spiders, the Wildcats clinched a winning record for the 13th time in the last 15 years and the 24th time in 31 seasons under head coach Andy Talley. Villanova continued the run it has been on over the past eight years. Since the beginning of the 2008 campaign, the Wildcats own a record of 66-34 (.660) in their past 100 games.
  • In the past two seasons Villanova has won five games that it trailed in the fourth quarter, including three such games in 2014 and two games this year. In three of the five wins, the Wildcats trailed in the final minute of the game before scoring a touchdown to win. The common denominator in all three last-minute comebacks was a touchdown reception by Kevin Gulyas.
  • Villanova has forced nine turnovers in its last three games, including three against Richmond with two fumble recoveries and an interception. Prior to this victory, the last time the Wildcats recovered two fumbles in a game was last season against Albany (November 15, 2014). Villanova has a plus-five turnover margin for the season.
  • Senior wide receiver Kevin Gulyas tied a career high with eight receptions and finished the game with 122 receiving yards. It marked his fifth career game with at least 100 receiving yards and his second such game this season.
  • Kevin Gulyas caught a 12-yard touchdown pass with 41 seconds left as Villanova rallied for a 21-20 victory. It marked the third time in his career that Gulyas scored a game-winning touchdown with the Wildcats trailing in the final minute of the game. He had similar touchdown receptions last season at William & Mary and Delaware.
  • With his game-winning 12-yard touchdown reception in the final minute of the game, Kevin Gulyas also became the 16th player in Villanova history to surpass 1,500 career receiving yards. Gulyas has caught 86 career passes for 1,507 yards and ranks 16th in school history in receiving. His 122 yards versus Richmond moved him up four spots on the Wildcats all-time list. He passed Greg Downs (1,425), Harold Hart (1,445), Scott Donald (1,462) and Matt Szczur (1,485) during the game. Gulyas needs 15 more yards to tie Shaz Brown (1999-02) for 15th place with 1,522 yards.
  • Junior defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon blocked his second kick of the season when he stopped a Richmond extra point attempt in the fourth quarter. The missed extra point proved to be the difference in the Wildcats 21-20 victory. Kpassagnon previously blocked a point-after try in the season opener at Connecticut.
  • Senior safety Cameron McCurry had both a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the game, while junior linebacker Austin Calitro had both a forced fumble and an interception. McCurry recovered a Richmond fumble in the second quarter and then forced a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half. Calitro forced the fumble that McCurry recovered and also returned his second career interception for 21 yards.
  • Sophomore safety Wes Smith had a career-high nine tackles, surpassing the eight tackles he made in the season opener at Connecticut.
  • Junior punter John Hinchen placed three of his four punts inside the Richmond 20-yard line in the game. The only previous game in which he had three punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line was in his collegiate debut at Syracuse last year in the 2014 season opener.
