Villanova/James Madison Post-Game Notes

  • Villanova finished the season with a 6-5 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in conference games. This is the 13th time in the last 15 years that the Wildcats have had a winning record and the 24th time in the 31 seasons that Andy Talley has been head coach.
  • Villanova posted a 2-1 record versus ranked teams during the 2015 season, including wins over No. 9 Richmond (21-20) and No. 16 Fordham (14-7) in addition to the season-ending loss to No. 12 James Madison (38-29). The Wildcats are now 58-68 (.460) all-time versus ranked opponents, including 21-43 (.328) on the road. Villanova is 26-20 (.565) against ranked foes since the start of the 2008 season.
  • The end of the 2015 season marks the end of the careers for a highly successful class of Wildcats seniors. Villanova posted a record of 31-17 (.646) over the past four seasons, including making playoff appearances in 2012 and 2014. Prior to last week's final home versus Richmond, the Wildcats recognized 29 members of the team during a Senior Day ceremony.
  • Villanova registered season highs in total offense and rushing yards in the loss to the Dukes. The offensive included 321 yards on the ground and 453 total yards for the game. The Wildcats surpassed 200 rushing yards in a game five times during the season, including in three of their final four contests.
  • Redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk ran for a season-high 157 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Bednarczyk got a season-high 24 carries and surpassed 100 rushing yards for the second time this season. He finished the day with 289 yards of total offense. Bednarczyk was 14-of-25 through the air for 132 yards with two interceptions.
  • Senior wide receiver Kevin Gulyas had two receptions for 13 yards in the game. Gulyas finished his career ranked 16th in school history with 1,520 receiving yards. He made 88 catches and scored 18 touchdowns.
  • Senior linebacker Don Cherry made seven tackles in his final collegiate game, including two tackles for loss and a sack. Cherry finished his stellar career with 331 tackles, 46.5 tackles for loss, 14.0 sacks, seven forced fumbles, seven pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Cherry also got the first offensive touches of his career in his final game. He recorded three goal-line carries for two total yards and a touchdown versus James Madison.
