Dec. 6, 2015 ResultsPrinceton, N.J. - The Villanova women's swimming and diving team took home third place from the Big Al Open with 691 points after another strong record breaking performance Sunday. The men finished seventh with 120 points.
Women
Freshman Darby Goodwin's historic weekend continued Sunday as the Jupiter, Fla. native took down one the oldest records in the book setting a new time in the 200 back.
Goodwin took home first place in the 200 back prelims with a time of 1:58.90 which is also an NCAA "B" cut time. The previous record stood for 18-years and was held by Jackie Gruters who set the mark back in 1997. In the 200 back finals, Goodwin would re-break her own record she set in the morning finishing first with a time of 1:58.30. That time is also an NCAA "B" cut time.
Caitlin Daday took home third place in the 1650 free with a time of 16:27.36 while Kaisla Kollanus took home second place in the 100 free with a 50.13 showing. Daday's time in the 1650 free ranks 39th in the country and was an NCAA "B" cut time.
Princeton won the event for the women with 887 points overall. To recap Goodwin's historic weekend, she would set a new Villanova University record in the 100 backstroke during the first leg of the 400 medley with a time of 55.20. (Fellow teammate Gabby Daigneault held the previous record of 55.27.) The Villanova women would finish second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.81. Goodwin would cap off day one by winning the 200 IM with a 2:01.39 showing.
In Saturday's prelims of the 100 back, she broke her own record in the 100 back with a time of 54.80 becoming the first Villanova woman ever to be under 55 seconds. She would break her own record again in the finals of the 100 back taking first place with a time of 54.69 which is good for an NCAA "B" cut time. Goodwin would also take home second place on day two as the Villanova women finished the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.14.
