VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's swimming team fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday afternoon from the Villanova Swim Complex, 249-45. The meet came as the last home event and last regular-season meet for the Wildcats as the squad will now prep for the BIG EAST Championships in Ithaca, N.Y. in two weeks.
Villanova recognized its three seniors before the meet: Jason Moyer, Chris Tamanini and Tony Sipala.
Each senior raced in two individual events. Moyer came in second, the best individual mark of the day for the men, in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.69. He also came in fifth in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall at 1:45.60.
Tamanini came in fourth place during the 100 back at 54.66 and fifth in the 200 back with a final time of 2:05.01.
Sipala also came in fourth and fifth place in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with times of 1:01.76 and 2:20.03, respectively.
The Wildcat men garnered three other third-place finishes.
Mike Rodriguez took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.70.
The Wildcats also placed third in two relay events. Rodriguez, Tyler Nussbaum, Jake Hoin and Moyer came in at 1:35.49 of the 200 medley relay while Tamanini, Murphy Smith, Hoin and Moyer took third in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:12.71.
The men are next in action at the BIG EAST Championship in Ithaca, N.Y., hosted at Ithaca College from Wed., Feb. 18 to Sat., Feb. 21. Tickets are on sale and the event will be live-streamed on FOX Sports GO on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
