CHESTER, Pa. - The second day of competition at the Danny Curran Invitational wrapped up in frigid conditions on Saturday afternoon, where Villanova had athletes competing in four different events. Senior Kathleen McPhillips (Carlisle, Pa.) led a group of six Wildcats in the pole vault with a first place finish. Villanova also had entries in the hammer, javelin and 100 meter hurdles.

McPhillips won the pole vault at a height of 3.72 meters to top a field of 23 competitors. Junior Virginia LaMacchia (Bloomsburg, Pa.) tied for second place with a height of 3.62 meters, while junior Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) and freshman Kara Snyder (Loudonville, N.Y.) each tied for fourth place (3.52m). Freshman Bridget Owen (Northborough, Mass.) tied for sixth place (3.42m) and sophomore Alexandra Elder (Moorestown, N.J.) was ninth (3.27m).

Junior throwers Alita Ostapkovich (Bensalem, Pa.) and Claudia Tishler (Medfield, Mass.) each competed in the hammer and placed third and 10th, respectively. Ostapkovich recorded a throw of 44.30 meters, while Tishler had a mark of 35.07 meters.

Villanova had five athletes competing in the javelin, and sophomore Caroline Hamilton (Nottingham, Pa.) paced the group with a fourth place finish. Hamilton threw for a distance of 37.10 meters and the Wildcats had three finishers in the top nine of a field that included 29 athletes. Seniors Abigail Freitag (Bridgeton, N.J.) and Alexi Stershic (Yardley, Pa.) placed sixth (35.75m) and ninth (34.45m), respectively. Sophomore Hannah Lee (Scituate, R.I.) recorded a throw of 31.84 meters to finish in 18th place, while senior Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) came in 25th with a distance of 27.96 meters.

Freshman Katie HoSang (Bedford, N.H.) competed in the 100 meter hurdles and finished in fifth place with a time of 16.70.

Villanova will compete in both the Colonial Relays and the Sam Howell Invitational next weekend.
