April 20, 2015 Official Releases: Women | Men
PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Katrin Heider and Jason Moyer and juniors Fiona Hardie and Kaisla Kollanus from the Villanova swimming teams were named to the 2014-15 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving Teams on Monday afternoon. Heider, Hardie and Kollanus were three of 12 student-athletes selected to the women's squad while Moyer was one of 10 nominated to the men's team. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Heider, the 2013-14 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, and Kollanus are repeat selections to the team from last year.
Moyer was a unanimous selection to this year's squad and it is also his second-straight appearance on the All-Area team.
All four of these Wildcats were also named to their respective All-BIG EAST Teams earlier this year as the women helped secure their second-consecutive BIG EAST title in Ithaca, N.Y.
Kollanus, who was named the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer at the recent BIG EAST Championships, set a new Villanova benchmark in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.67. The junior also broke her own record which she set back in 2013 (49.82). The Hyvinkaa, Finland native then tied the 50 freestyle mark set by Meaghan McCaffrey back in 1993 with a time of 22.97 at the conference championships. Kollanus also had seven top-three finishes at the championships, the most of any person at the conference finals (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay).
At the BIG EAST Championships, Hardie, last year's BIG EAST Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer, broke the VU 100 butterfly mark, turning in a time of 54.14.
Hardie and Kollanus also helped set a new benchmark in the 200 medley relay (1:42.06) while Heider and Kollanus helped set a new Wildcat record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.35) at the conference championships in Ithaca, N.Y. in March.
