April 22, 2015 Complete Heptathlon Results
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The final three events of the Penn Relays heptathlon were held on Wednesday at Franklin Field and Villanova senior Katherine Petruzzellis (Annandale, N.J.) tallied a fourth place finish with a score of 4,907 points. She is the Wildcats first athlete in many years to compete in one of the multi events at the Penn Relays, and she kicked off an exciting week of events for Villanova.
Petruzzellis was in second place after the first four events of the heptathlon on Tuesday afternoon. She got off to a strong start on Wednesday, and had the second-best long jump out of the 12 athletes in the heptathlon field. Petruzzellis registered a mark of 5.37 meters in the long jump, while her other marks for the day included a distance of 28.28 meters in the javelin and a time of 2:32.63 in the 800 meters.
In the first four events held on Tuesday, Petruzzellis had scored a total of 3,140 points. She also set a personal best time in the 200 meters with a mark of 25.90 to close out the day's events.
The multi events over the past two days marked the beginning of the 121st running of the Penn Relays. Thursday will be a full day of action for Villanova, beginning with the championship section of the 400 meter hurdles as well as the college sections of both the high jump and the pole vault starting at 10 a.m. The marquis event of the day is the women's Championship of America distance medley relay at 5:30 p.m.
