April 27, 2015 VILLANOVA, PA. -- Villanova University head football coach Andy Talley today announced the 2015 Wildcat team captains. Senior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.), senior defensive end Reggie Paris (Pemberton, N.J.) and senior quarterback John Robertson (Paramus, N.J.) and will serve as tri-captains for the 2015 season.
Cherry led the Villanova defense last season with 134 tackles (82 solo) to go with a team-high 21.5 tackles for loss, a team-best 10 sacks and a team-high five forced fumbles. In addition to being named first team All-CAA, Cherry also garnered first team All-American acclaim from the Sports Network, Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press. He also was second in the Buck Buchanan Award balloting which goes to the top defensive player in FCS Football.
Robertson finished the 2014 season by completing 197-of-301 (65.4%) for 2,846 yards with 35 touchdowns and three interceptions to go with 227 carries for 1,078 yards and 11 scores. In seven of his 13 games in 2014, he threw at least three touchdown passes. For his efforts last year, Robertson won the Walter Payton Award given to the top player in FCS Football.
Paris started all 14 games last season and tallied 42 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery. In 37 career games, Paris has 84 total stops, 13.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and five forced fumbles.
