Villanova/Fordham Postgame Notes

  • Villanova improved to 22-5-3 (.783) all-time against Fordham with the victory, including 12-1 (.923) under head coach Andy Talley. Dating back to 1985, the Wildcats are 27-4 (.871) versus Patriot League opponents.
  • This is the second straight year that both Villanova and the Rams came into the game against each other with a national ranking. Last season, the Wildcats were ranked No. 10 in the nation when they posted a 50-6 win over No. 11 Fordham. This year, Villanova came into the game with a No. 6 national ranking, while the Rams were ranked No. 16.
  • The game also marked the 84th time since 1985 that the Wildcats were involved in a game between two ranked teams. Villanova improved to 45-39 (.536) in such games and is now 57-66 (.463) overall against ranked teams since 1985. More recently, the Wildcats have gone 25-18 (.581) versus ranked opponents since the start of the 2008 season.
  • Villanova is 61-31 (.663) since the start of the 2008 season.
  • Junior linebacker Austin Calitro tallied career highs of 10 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss. His previous career high for total stops had been eight against Penn last season (September 27, 2014). Calitro entered the game with just 2.5 career tackles for loss. His 4.0 tackles for loss in the win are the most in a game by a Wildcats player since senior linebacker Don Cherry also had 4.0 tackles for loss against Fordham last season.
  • Junior running back Javon White had career highs of 23 carries and 143 rushing yards. His previous top marks were 10 carries and 56 yards, both at Rhode Island on November 9, 2013.
  • Senior wide receiver Aaron Wells established new career highs with four receptions and 87 receiving yards. He previously had 45 yards, all on one reception, at Delaware last season (November 22, 2014). His previous career high for receptions was two in a game, done on five occasions.
  • Senior quarterback John Robertson surpassed 3,600 career rushing yards during the game. Robertson ranks second in school history in rushing and finished the night with 3,620 career yards. Robertson also scored his 47th career touchdown (all rushing) in the game. That total is also the second-most in school history.
  • John Robertson also surpassed 7,000 career passing yards in the win. His updated career total is 7,082 yards. Robertson is 547-of-851 (64.3 percent) in his career with 64 touchdowns and only 18 interceptions.
