  • Redshirt freshman Zach Bednarczyk became just the second left-handed quarterback to start for Villanova head coach Andy Talley. The previous southpaw starter was Christian Culicerto, who started three games during the 2011 season.
  • Bednarczyk amassed 208 yards of total offense in his first career start. He was 18-of-31 through the air for 185 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. Bednarczyk also ran for 23 yards on 10 carries.
  • Freshman wide receiver Jarrett McClenton recorded his first career touchdown when he caught an eight-yard pass for a score in the fourth quarter.
  • Villanova had a streak of 14 consecutive wins against Penn snapped with the loss. The Wildcats lead the all-time series by a 14-6 margin, and the Quakers had not posted a win in the series since a 22-0 triumph on October 14, 1911.
  • The 90-yard fumble return by Penn linebacker Donald Panciello was the longest fumble return ever by a Villanova opponent. The previous record was an 80-yard fumble return by the Steelton YMCA in a game that the Wildcats lost 5-0 on October 20, 1906.
