Sept. 6, 2015 Final Stats
DENVER, Colo. - The Villanova volleyball team won the opening set but was defeated in four sets 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 by Denver in the Denver Classic.
The Wildcats (3-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Amanda Pedersen-Henry (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta High) who tallied a career-high dozen kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Pedersen-Henry was named to the Denver Classic All-Tournament team for her weekend performance.
Claire Crutchfield (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista) had 11 kills each while Lauren Carpenter (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) added 10 kills of her own.
Emma Pettit (Ft. Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) recorded her first double-double of the season with 44 assists and 14 digs.
The Pioneers (5-1 overall) were led by Kayla Principato with 15 kills.
Villanova jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the first set and eventually extended the lead to eight, 18-10. Denver cut the lead to five points but could not get any closer, dropping the set 25-20.
The second set was tied 14-14 before Denver scored 11 of the next 15 points to close the set 25-18.
Denver used a 10-1 run to break open a nine point lead in the third set. Villanova tried to get back into the set with a 5-0 run but could get no closer than three points the rest of the set.
The fourth and final set was close throughout with Villanova leading 19-18 late in the set. Denver scored the last seven points of the match to take the win.
The Villanova volleyball team travels to Lehigh on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for a 7:00pm match.
