Sept. 7, 2015 STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Villanova men's tennis team earned three championships in the Stony Brook Classic to start the 2015 season.
The three championships claimed by the Wildcats came in flight B of doubles action and the C and D flights of singles competition.
Luis Miranda (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) and Alastair Hurry (Newport Beach, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) teamed up to go 4-0 on the weekend and win the Doubles B tournament. The pair won 7-5 in the first round before back-to-back 6-3 wins to advance to the championship. They won the championship 7-6 over the Fairleigh Dickinson duo of Bourne and Carvolho.
Thomas Dodson won the Singles C tournament in his first collegiate tournament. The freshman advanced with scores of 6-2, 6-1 in the first round, 6-4, 6-0 in the second round and 6-2, 6-0 in the third round. Dodson then defeated Stony Brook's Hari Rohan 6-0, 6-2 to claim the championship.
Gary Aloian, also a freshman, won the Singles D tournament in his first action as a Wildcat. Aloian won with scores of 6-2, 7-5 in round one, 6-3, 6-1 in round two, and 7-6, 6-4 in the third round. He won the championship with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Hofstra's Leonardo Pires.
Chris Seitz (Pennington, N.J./Hun School) finished runner-up in the Singles A championship, losing 7-5, 6-1 in the championship match.
