Jan. 12, 2016 Official BIG EAST Release
NEW YORK- Following her record breaking performances at the Princeton Big Al Open on December 4-6, freshman Darby Goodwin (Jupiter, Fla./ The Pine School) was named BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the third time this season the BIG EAST has tabbed her with this honor. She first received this honor back on October 27 and the second time on November 10.
On day one of the Princeton Big Al Invite, Goodwin would set a new Villanova University record in the 100 back during the first leg of the 400 medley with a time of 55.20. (Fellow teammate Gabby Daigneault held the previous record of 55.27.) The Villanova women would finish second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.81. Goodwin would cap off day one by winning the 200 IM with a 2:01.17 showing.
In the prelims of the 100 back on December 5, the Jupiter, Fla. native broke her own record in the 100 back with a time of 54.80 becoming the first Villanova woman ever to be under 55 seconds. She would break her own record again in the finals of the 100 back taking first place with a time of 54.69. Goodwin would also take home second place on day two as the Villanova women finished the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.14.
In the prelims on December 6, Goodwin broke the 18-year old school record in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.90. In the 200 back finals, Goodwin would re-break her own record she set in the morning finishing first with a time of 1:58.30.
Both of Goodwin's record breaking times in the 100 back (54.69) and 200 back (1:58.30) are NCAA "B" cut times. Her 2:01.17 showing in the 200 IM is also "B" cut time.
The Villanova women won't return to the pool until Friday, January 29 when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va. to take on the Mountaineers of West Virginia and the Iowa State Cyclones. Start time is 6:00 p.m.
