Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova men's swimming team (2-5,1-2 BIG EAST) capped of their Senior Day festivities with a 122-80 victory over the Providence Friars (0-5, 0-2 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion Pool Complex.
The men picked up eight-first place, seven-second place, and four-third place victories Saturday.
Prior to the start of the meet, Villanova honored five senior men who will be graduating this spring. Ryan Murtha (Philadelphia, Pa. / La Salle College High School), Zachary Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass. / Marblehead), Murphy Smith (Wayne, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep), Pat Sullivan (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell), and Nikolai Tchobanov (Brewster, N.Y. / Brewster N.Y.) were all recognized for their achievements the last four years on the Main Line.
The Wildcats started off strong as Villanova took 1-2 in the 200 medley relay to open up the meet. Harrison Rodts took home first place in the 1000 free with a 10:01.59 showing. The Marblehead, Mass. native would also place second in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.30.
In the 50 free, Villanova went 1-2-3 as Joe Moleski (21.78), Murtha (22.57), and Tyler Nussbaum (22.59) each had strong showings.
Jake Hoin had two victories Saturday afternoon in the 200 IM (1:56.16) and 100 free at 47.55.
In his final home meet of his career, Nikolai Tchobanov went out with a victory in the 200 fly as he touched the wall at 1:58.39. Fellow senior Zach Romanovsky qualified for the BIG EAST championships with his 1 meter exhibition dive at 240.15 points.
The men will return to action next Saturday, January 23, as they travel to Newark, Del. to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens. The women will also be competing for the first time since Dec. 4-6.
