Christiansburg, Va. - The Villanova swimming and diving teams finished the first day of the Hokie Fall Invitational on Thursday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The Wildcats' women's team is in third place with 165.5 points, while the men's team sits in seventh place at 49.5 points.
The women's 200-yard free relay began the third and final session of the meet. Darby Goodwin, Kristin Haufler, Alexa Fabbri and Taylor Wilson took third place in the event with a time of 1:33.14, which was a season-best mark.
Fabbri placed third as an individual in the women's 50-yard free at 23.11, and Goodwin finished eighth in the women's 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.39. Teammate Emily Mayo had a good showing in the 500-yard free, touching the wall at 4:51.40 to tie for third place.
Brooke Bruno, Mackenzie Niness, Goodwin and Fabbri finished in a season-best time of 3:46.30 in the 400-yard medley relay and helped the team earn points with a seventh place finish.
Andrew Kelley, Tyler Nussbaum, Jake Hoin and Stephen Krecsmar, had an impressive performance of their own in the men's 400-yard medley relay, finishing with a time of 3.24.29, which was .01 seconds under last year's best time.
In the men's 200-yard free relay, the team of Christopher Paynter, Hoin, Nussbaum, Krecsmar and took eighth place at 1:23.32, eight tenths of a second faster than last season's best time.
Michael Perra earned 6.5 points in the men's one meter dive event, tying for 10th place with a time of 236.50.
