Dana Morris' three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning sparked Villanova en route to a 12-0 (F5) victory over Drexel Tuesday afternoon.

Villanova Downs Georgia State, 15-2, in Five Innings

Clearwater, Fla. - The Villanova softball team (2-4, 0-0 BIG EAST) returned to action Friday evening on Florida's Gulf Coast as they handled the Georgia State Panthers by 15-2 margin in five innings.

The Wildcats would explode for seven runs in the top of the first inning as they battered Georgia State starting pitcher Annie Davis.

After Lauren Herschberg and Brittany Husk got on base, Dana Morris ripped a single to left field scoring both Herschberg and Husk to give VU a 2-0 lead. Nikki Alden would then single advancing Morris to third base bringing Chase Snell to the plate.

Snell RBI singled through the right side scoring Morris to give Villanova a 3-0 lead. Sierra McConnell would then RBI single scoring Alden to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. Following two strikeouts from Shea Palmer and Lauren Hanna, Tianah Hathaway RBI singled scoring Snell to extend the Villanova lead to 5-0. Villanova would bat around in the inning bringing Herschberg back to the plate as she RBI singled scoring McConnell. The Wildcats would tack on another run to lead 7-0.

After the Panthers added a run in the bottom of the first, Villanova's bats would remain red hot in top of the second inning scoring another six runs on four hits with two errors by Georgia State. The big hit in the inning came when Brittany Husk RBI singled scoring Hathaway and Hanna. Villanova would take a commanding 13-1 lead into the top of third inning.

Brette Lawrence (1-1) kept the Panthers' bats at bay for the majority of the day. She went 4.0 innings giving up just one run on four hits.

Herschberg would triple down the right field line to start off the fourth inning. Following a Brittany Husk walk, Dana Morris doubled to left field scoring both Herschberg and Husk to give Villanova a 15-1 lead.

In total, the Wildcats had 14 hits and two different players with three hits each. Herschberg went 3-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBI's and Dana Morris had a huge night at the plate going 2-for-3 with 4 RBI's.
