5000 Meters
Patrick Tiernan settled into third place early on in the race and was well back of the two leading runners for the first 1000 meters ââ'¬Â¦ He then moved up to draw even with the leaders and formed a lead pack of three runners ââ'¬Â¦ After 3000 meters, Tiernan and Erik Peterson of Butler separated themselves from the pack ââ'¬Â¦ Tiernan was on Peterson's hip with 500 meters to go and then took the lead just before the start of the bell lap ââ'¬Â¦ He quickly pulled away and went on to the easy victory ââ'¬Â¦ Eighth Villanova athlete to win the same indoor event at least three times at the BIG EAST Championships, and the sixth to have a true "three-peat" in their respective event ââ'¬Â¦ The last to do so from Villanova was Dave Cook, who won the pentathlon four straight years from 1991-94 ââ'¬Â¦ Robert Hurlbut recorded a PR with a time of 14:20.18, beating his previous top mark of 14:33.16 set when he was a freshman (1/18/13 at Gotham Cup meet).

Distance Medley Relay
With their time of 9:29.17 in the relay, the Wildcats moved onto solid ground for qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the event ââ'¬Â¦ The time is the fourth-fastest indoor mark in the DMR in school history ââ'¬Â¦ The three faster times are 9:27.04 (2/13/15 at David Hemery Valentine Invitational), 9:28.06 (3/2/14 at Boston University Last Chance Meet) and 9:29.12 (3/14/03 at NCAA Championships) ââ'¬Â¦ Seven of the 10 fastest indoor DMR races in Villanova history have come since 2012 ââ'¬Â¦ The Wildcats had won the DMR at the BIG EAST meet in each of the last three years ââ'¬Â¦ Villanova has finished in the top three of the relay 31 times in 36 years at the conference championships (16 wins, nine second place finishes, six third place) ââ'¬Â¦ There was little separation between the Wildcats and Georgetown at any point during the first three legs of the relay ââ'¬Â¦ Jordy Williamsz, Harry Purcell and Ben Malone all handed off the baton with the slightest of leads ââ'¬Â¦ Purcell pulled comfortably out in front early in his 400 meter leg before being nearly even at the second handoff ââ'¬Â¦ Denault had the lead for nearly the entire anchor leg of the relay but was caught by Hoyas anchor Amos Bartelsmeyer with less than 100 meters to go.

Pole Vault
James Deutmeyer made the awards podium for the second straight year with his third place finish ââ'¬Â¦ He was the runner-up in the pole vault last season ââ'¬Â¦ This is the fourth time overall and the third time in as many years that the Wildcats have had an All-BIG EAST (top 3 finish) performer in the pole vault ââ'¬Â¦ Deutmeyer is the first from Villanova to be a two-time indoor All-BIG EAST selection in the pole vault ââ'¬Â¦ The two athletes who have garnered this distinction once in their careers are Chris Dougherty in 2014 and Mike Morris in 1981.

Weight Throw
James Rowen recorded a season-best mark of 14.30 meters ââ'¬Â¦ His top throw of the year prior to the meet had been 14.09 meters and was established at the Great Dane Classic.

60 Meters
Donald Urschel and Sterling Pierce each finished second in their respective preliminary heats to move on to the final ââ'¬Â¦ Urschel established a new PR with a time of 6.96 and moved up one spot to fifth on the all-time Villanova performance list in the event ââ'¬Â¦ He had recorded his previous personal best of 6.99 on a total of three occasions, all this season ââ'¬Â¦ Urschel first ran 6.98 at the Villanova Open on January 8, then matched that effort in both the preliminary heats and the final at the Villanova Invitational on February 6.

60 Meter Hurdles
Aaron Sandifer and Robert Cacace each ran in the first of two preliminary heats ââ'¬Â¦ Sandifer came in second in the heat with a PR of 8.54, while Cacace was fifth in the heat with a time of 9.31 ââ'¬Â¦ Sandifer's PR beat his time of 8.62 set in the BIG EAST final on 2/22/14 ââ'¬Â¦ He also moved up a spot on the Wildcats all-time performance list and now sits ninth on the list for the 60 meter hurdles.

400 Meters
Harry Purcell had the top overall time in the field, as he crossed the finish line in 47.98 ââ'¬Â¦ It is the fastest indoor 400 meters time for the Wildcats since Elvis Lewis tallied a time of 47.89 in the BIG EAST final on February 22, 2009 ââ'¬Â¦ Charlie O'Brien's time of 50.46 is a new personal best, beating the mark of 50.88 that he had set at the Gotham Cup (1/22/16) earlier this season.

500 Meters
Ville Lampinen and Ishmael Muhammad won their respective preliminary heats and had the top two times overall in the preliminaries ââ'¬Â¦ Utsav Deshpande had a PR time of 1:07.49 to narrowly beat the mark of 1:07.56 he recorded at the Penn State National earlier this season (1/30/16).

1000 Meters
Elliot Slade started off near the back of the pack in the second of two preliminary heats ââ'¬Â¦ He was initially pushed into sixth place but then moved towards the front after 400 meters ââ'¬Â¦ He made a kick with 300 meters left and took the lead just before the start of the bell lap ââ'¬Â¦ Slade was pushed hard by Cole Williams of Georgetown during the final lap and Williams nipped Slade at the line to win the heat.
