60 Meters
Sterling Pierce is the first Villanova athlete to win the 60 meters at the BIG EAST Championships ââ'¬Â¦ There had only been three previous occasions when the Wildcats had a runner even finish in the top three of the event (1985, 1991, 1992) and each of those three times came when the event was run at 55 meters ââ'¬Â¦ Pierce's winning time of 6.89 in the final is the sixth-fastest in school history, and the fastest 60 meters by a Villanova runner since Kevin Okolie posted a time of 6.82 in the preliminary heats of the 2008 BIG EAST Championships ââ'¬Â¦ Pierce's previous PR of 6.95 was set at the Villanova Open (1/8/16) earlier this season ââ'¬Â¦ Donald Urschel came in fourth with a time of 6.94 and recorded a PR for the second straight day ââ'¬Â¦ He had posted a time of 6.96 in the preliminary heats.
60 Meter Hurdles
Aaron Sandifer registered a top-three finish in the 60 meter hurdles for the third straight year ââ'¬Â¦ He established new personal best times in both the preliminary heats and the final ââ'¬Â¦ His time of 8.54 in the preliminary heats on Friday moved him up one spot into ninth place on the Wildcats all-time performance list ââ'¬Â¦ He lowered that time to 8.51 in the final ââ'¬Â¦ His prior PR before this weekend was 8.62 in the BIG EAST final in 2014, when he was the runner-up ââ'¬Â¦ The last Villanova runner to be a three-time All-BIG EAST performer in the 60 meter hurdles is Antoine Johnson (2000-02).
200 Meters
Sterling Pierce finished second by .06 seconds after winning the 60 meters earlier in the day ââ'¬Â¦ His time of 21.45 is a personal best and is also tied for the eighth-fastest indoor time in school history ââ'¬Â¦ Pierce recorded the fastest indoor 200 meters time by a Wildcats runner since Carlos Bedoya had a time of 21.27 in the final of the Armory Collegiate Challenge on February 14, 2004 ââ'¬Â¦ Bdoya was also the last Villanova runner to tally a top-three finish in the 200 meters at the indoor BIG EAST meet ââ'¬Â¦ He won the event in 2004 ââ'¬Â¦ Pierce ranks fourth on the Wildcats all-time indoor 200 meters list ââ'¬Â¦ Donald Urschel recorded a fourth place finish with a personal best time of 21.95 ââ'¬Â¦ He lowered the new PR of 21.98 that he set in the preliminary heats a day earlier.
400 Meters
Harry Purcell, Colin Winslow and Kyle Cartwright finished second, third and fourth, respectively ââ'¬Â¦ Villanova had not had an All-BIG EAST performer indoors in the 400 meters since Carlton Bowers was the runner-up in 2011 ââ'¬Â¦ Cartwright won the first of two final heats, while Purcell and Winslow each ran in the faster second heat.
500 Meters
Ville Lampinen won the BIG EAST title in the 500 meters in only his second career race in the event ââ'¬Â¦ His winning time of 1:02.59 puts him onto the Wildcats all-time performance list in eighth place ââ'¬Â¦ This is the seventh time that Villanova has won the 500 meters at the BIG EAST meet ââ'¬Â¦ Ishmael Muhammad came in third in 1:03.31 ââ'¬Â¦ Lampinen and Muhammad each ran in the second of two final heats of the 500 meters.
800 Meters
Josh Lampron finished third with a time of 1:51.14 ââ'¬Â¦ He ran exactly four seconds faster than in the preliminary heats on Friday and also established a new indoor PR ââ'¬Â¦ Lampron has run as fast as 1:49.38 outdoors ââ'¬Â¦ This is the 24th time that the Wildcats have had an All-BIG EAST performer in the 800 meters.
1000 Meters
Elliot Slade won his second career individual title at the indoor conference championships ââ'¬Â¦ He posted a winning time of 2:26.65 after coming into the final ranked fourth based on the results of the preliminary heats ââ'¬Â¦ Villanova has now won the 1000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships a total of 10 times ââ'¬Â¦ Slade also won the 800 meters last year ââ'¬Â¦ He pushed into the lead at the start of the race and was in second place behind Alec Miller of Marquette as the runners approached the 400 meter mark ââ'¬Â¦ With one lap to go, Slade was pushing Cole Williams of Georgetown and caught him on the back straightaway ââ'¬Â¦ Slade took the lead for good during the back turn and maintained the advantage coming down the final straightaway to the finish line.
Mile
Jordy Williamsz won the BIG EAST title in the Mile for the second time in his career ââ'¬Â¦ He was also the 2014 conference champion in the event, then won the 3000 meters last year ââ'¬Â¦ This is the 11th time the Wildcats have won the Mile and the 22nd time Villanova has produced a top-three finish in the event ââ'¬Â¦ Williamsz had a winning time of 4:21.57 and Ben Malone placed fourth in 4:22.20 ââ'¬Â¦ Less than seven-tenths of a second separated the top four finishers ââ'¬Â¦ There was a tight pack of runners early on, with Malone out in front and Williamsz in third or fourth place ââ'¬Â¦ There was little change until after 600 meters had passed ââ'¬Â¦ Julian Oakley from Providence took the lead with 400 meters to go and Williamsz followed him with Malone in third ââ'¬Â¦ When the race picked up steam at the start of the bell lap, Williamsz made a move for the lead and passed Oakley during the back straightaway.
3000 Meters
Patrick Tiernan added a BIG EAST title in the 3000 meters to go along with his three career titles in the 5000 meters ââ'¬Â¦ He recorded a winning time of 8:13.16 and Rob Denault finished second in 8:15.88 ââ'¬Â¦ Villanova has produced more All-BIG EAST performers in the 3000 meters ââ'¬" 28 ââ'¬" than in any other individual running event, including 11 conference champions in the event ââ'¬Â¦ Tiernan and Denault came in second and third, respectively, in the 3000 meters last season ââ'¬Â¦ Harry Warnick came in fourth (8:19.69) and Robert Hurlbut finished eighth with a personal best time of 8:26.52 ââ'¬Â¦ His previous PR had been 8:30.70 at the Great Dane Classic earlier this season (1/16/16) ââ'¬Â¦ Villanova scored 24 points in the 3000 meters.
4x400 Meter Relay
A two-team race between Villanova and DePaul had an exciting finish, with the Wildcats placing second by a margin of just one-third of a second ââ'¬Â¦ Kyle Cartwright, Harry Purcell, Donald Urschel and Ville Lampinen recorded a time of 3:14.67, while DePaul had a winning time of 3:14.33 ââ'¬Â¦ This is the 20th time that the Wildcats have earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 4x400 relay.
4x800 Meter Relay
Villanova won the 4x800 relay for the 14th time and finished in at least the top three for the 14th consecutive year ââ'¬Â¦ The lineup for the Wildcats included Ben Malone, Ishmael Muhammad, Elliot Slade and Jordy Williamsz ââ'¬Â¦ The winning time for the Wildcats was 7:28.04.
High Jump
Freshman Michael Morrow had a breakthrough performance with a runner-up finish ââ'¬Â¦ He cleared the bar at 1.95 meters ââ'¬Â¦ This is the ninth time Villanova has had a top-three finisher indoors in the high jump, but it is only the fourth time that the Wildcats have had a competitor finish first or second in the event.
Triple Jump
Aaron Elcock and Pearson Feagans came in ninth and 10th, respectively ââ'¬Â¦ Elcock recorded a jump of 12.87 meters to beat the personal best mark of 12.53 meters he tallied at the Villanova Invitational earlier this month (2/6/16) ââ'¬Â¦ Feagans had a mark of 12.76 meters.
Shot Put
Dan Sullivan surpassed 15 meters for the first time in his career with a throw of 15.11 meters ââ'¬Â¦ That was good for fourth place overall and was the top indoor performance of his collegiate career, eclipsing the mark of 14.25 meters he tallied at the Great Dane Classic (1/16/16) earlier in the season ââ'¬Â¦ Henry Sise also scored in the event with a season-best mark of 14.48 meters ââ'¬Â¦ James Rowen (13.24m) and Daniel Timko (12.40m) placed ninth and 12th, respectively.
Heptathlon
Robert Cacace finished in third place and recorded a career best score of 4156 points, surpassing his total of 4117 from last year's BIG EAST meet ââ'¬Â¦ This is the third straight season that Cacace has come in third in the heptathlon ââ'¬Â¦ During the competition he recorded a personal best height of 1.82 meters in the high jump.
