Newark, Del. - After beating North Carolina A&T earlier in the day Saturday, the Villanova softball team (9-8, 0-0 BIG EAST) fell in game two of the Delaware Spring Invitational to Albany by a 7-2 margin.

The Great Danes opened the scoring in the top half of the third inning as they scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. The big hit in the inning came when Elizabeth Snow doubled to left center scoring two runs for Albany.

Albany would tack on another run off of Villanova starter Kate Poppe in top of the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. VU would respond in the bottom half of the inning as Nikki Alden RBI singled home Brittany Husk to cut the Albany lead to 4-1.

Albany would add another three runs in the top half of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Snow once again doubled for the Great Danes. She finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI's and one run scored.

VU added a run in bottom half of the seventh inning as Stephanie Butler reached first on error scoring Alden to make it a 7-2 game.

Poppe (5-6) got the loss the Wildcats. She went 6.1 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

The loss snapped Villanova's five-game winning streak.

VU will close out the Delaware Invitational tomorrow as they play a double-header against host Delaware with game one starting at 12:00 p.m. and game two to follow at 2:30 p.m.
