NEW YORK - Thirteen women and five male swimmers from the Villanova swimming teams were named to the 2016 All-BIG EAST Team on Wednesday afternoon via a BIG EAST Conference press release.
The Villanova women had 13 selections which included sophomore Olivia Cacciatore, sophomore Caitlin Daday, sophomore Gabby Daigneault, freshman Alexa Fabbri, freshman Darby Goodwin, senior Fiona Hardie, senior Kaisla Kollanus, junior Emily Mayo, sophomore Mackenzie Niness, freshman Elise Pidutti, junior Mary Snyder, sophomore Christine Sullivan, and freshman Taylor Wilson who all received conference honors this year.
Goodwin was also named the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer of the 2016 BIG EAST Championships after recording 60 individual points and three NCAA B cut times. She won three BIG EAST individual titles (100 Back, 200 Back and 200 freestyle) and participated in two gold medal relay races (200 free and 400 free relays).
For the men, Jake Hoin was named to the All-BIG EAST Men's Team for his second place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Greg Cino, John Paul Naughton, Murphy Smith, and Patrick Sullivan were all named courtesy of their third place finish in the 800 free relay.
The Wildcat women broke 10 program records at the conference championships. Kollanus set new records in the 50 (twice) and 100 free. Goodwin would set three new records in the 100 back, 200 back, and 200 IM. Alexa Fabbri owns the new program mark in the 100 fly at 54.02.
The women set three new Villanova benchmarks in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay along with the 200 medley relay. Wilson, Goodwin, Fabbri, and Kollanus turned in a time of 3:18.76 in the 400 freestyle relay to set a new Wildcat record. Goodwin, Pidutti, Hardie, and Fabbri broke the 200 medley relay program record with a new time of 1:41:00 flat. Fabbri, Hardie, Wilson, and Kollanus set a new mark in 200 free at 1:30.69.
On the men's side, Hoin set new records in both the 100 fly and 200 IM. The quartet of Cino, Sullivan, Smith, and Naughton set a new mark in the 800 free relay at 6:42.63.
In total, 40 women and 44 men made the All-BIG EAST Team. A total of 24 women and 27 men earned all-conference honors in multiple events.
The 2016 All-BIG EAST Team is comprised of swimmers and divers who finished in the top three in any individual or relay event at this year's BIG EAST Championships in East Meadow, N.Y.
