Clearwater, Fla. - The Villanova Wildcats softball team (6-7, 0-0 BIG EAST) continued play Saturday afternoon at the USF Invite series as they beat IPFW by an 8-1 margin.

With the game tied at 0-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning, the Villanova bats finally broke through. With one out, Lauren Herschberg singled bringing Brittany Husk to the plate. Husk would RBI double to left center scoring Herschberg to give Villanova a 1-0 lead. Dana Morris would make it 3-0 Villanova as she smacked a two-run homerun to left center scoring Husk.

The Wildcats would tack on five more runs in the top half of the sixth inning on five hits. The big hit in the inning came when Nikki Alden RBI singled home Delaney Switzer and Aleshia Ayers to make it 7-0 Villanova. Chase Snell was up next and she RBI singled home Husk for the 8-0 lead. The Wildcats scored two other runs earlier in the inning on an error and a wild pitch.

The Mastodons would add one run the home half of the sixth inning to make it an 8-1 game.

Jordan Prutzer (1-1) picked up her first win of the year for Villanova. Prutzer was efficient giving up just two hits and zero runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Ayers, Herschberg, and Morris all went 2-for-4 in the game. Shea Palmer was 3-for-4 at the plate while Morris and Alden each had two RBI's.
