April 11, 2016 CHICAGO – The DePaul Blue Demons will serve as host of the 2016 BIG EAST Softball Championship, set for May 13-14 at The Ballpark at Rosemont, located in suburban Chicago. Tickets to see the four-team field compete for the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament are now available for purchase as of Monday, April 11, at 10 a.m. Eastern.
Ticket prices per day are $5 (Age 13 and Over) and free admission is available for those 12 and under. BIG EAST students can also receive complimentary game tickets by showing a valid school I.D. at the box office. To reserve tickets in advance, call the DePaul University Ticket Office at (773) 325-SLAM (7526). Tickets will also be available on game days at The Ballpark at Rosemont box office.
Teams that finish in the top four in the BIG EAST regular-season standings, based on winning percentage, will qualify for the conference tournament. At 8-0 in league play, the Blue Demons currently sit in first place. The hosts have qualified for the BIG EAST Championship every year they have been a member of the league and have advanced to at least the semifinal round all 10 seasons, winning league crowns in 2008 and 2014.
The Creighton Bluejays are in second place at 6-1 and Butler and Villanova both stand at 5-3. The Bulldogs are looking to make their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship. St. John’s, Seton Hall, Georgetown and Providence all remain within striking distance from the top four. With the season nearing the midway point, the door remains open for any of the league’s teams to claim a spot in the two-day tournament.
Semifinal games, which will air live on FOX Sports 2, are set for 1 p.m. (ET) and 4 p.m. (ET) on Friday, May 13. The semifinal winners will advance to the final on Saturday, May 14, which will also air on FOX Sports 2. First pitch of the BIG EAST title game is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
