Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (28-14, 11-4 BIG EAST) got solid pitching from Jordan Prutzer and timely hitting Sunday on Youth Day as they downed the Georgetown Hoyas, 4-1.
Shea Palmer would get the 'Cats on the board first in the bottom of the second inning as she lined out to centerfield scoring Aleshia Ayers for the 1-0 Villanova lead.
Villanova wouldn't score again until the bottom of the fourth inning where they got some help from the Georgetown defense.
Brittany Husk would single to left field scoring Delaney Switzer to give VU a 2-0 lead. With two runners on base with two outs, Dana Morris hit a deep fly ball to right centerfield which was dropped by Georgetown's right fielder Kelly Amen who was playing the shift. Both Lauren Herschberg and Husk scored to give Villanova a 4-0 lead.
The Hoyas would get a run off Prutzer in the top of the seventh inning as Grace Appelbe would hit a solo homerun to cut the Villanova lead to 4-1.
Prutzer (7-1) picked up her second consecutive win going all seven innings giving up just four hits, one run, and striking out five.
Husk went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Herschberg was 2-for-4 on the day.
The 'Cats will return to action this Tuesday as they travel to Towson, Md. for two games against the Towson Tigers. Game one starts at 2:30 p.m. with game two to follow at 4:30 p.m.
