Villanova Set For Doubleheader Tuesday at Towson

Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova softball team (28-14, 11-4 BIG EAST) will head to Towson, Md. this Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against the Towson University Tigers.

Game one will start at 2:30 p.m. with game two to follow 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one around 4:30 p.m.

Villanova is coming off a weekend in which they took two out of three games from the Georgetown Hoyas. The 'Cats saw their 17-game winning streak come to a halt in game one Saturday as the Hoyas scored nine runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Villanova 11-5.

Coach DiBernardi's team would respond in game two Saturday and the final game of the series on Sunday by beating Georgetown 2-1 and 4-1 respectively.

Jordan Prutzer had an excellent weekend in the circle as she went 2-0 to improve her record to 7-1 on the season. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll Monday for her efforts. Prutzer gave up just two runs total on Saturday and Sunday while striking out nine batters. On the year, Prutzer leads the team in ERA at 2.04 in 55 innings pitched.

Junior third baseman Lauren Herschberg had solid past week at the plate earning BIG EAST Weekly honor roll honors for the fourth time this season. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native was 6-for-17 (.353) in five games with two homeruns, four RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .813.

Herschberg is tops on Villanova in average at .380 (8th in BIG EAST), hits with 54, and is tied for the team lead in doubles with 10.

Freshman catcher Lauren Hanna continues to excel in her frosh campaign as the Brea, Calif. native was 7-for-16 (.437) in five games with four RBI's, one homerun, and one run scored. For the season, Hanna is hitting .324 and has provided tremendous defense behind the plate.

Senior Aleshia Ayers went 8-for-15, with two RBI's, two runs scored, and one double in five games last week. The speedy Sacramento, Calif. native has provided steady defense in left field while providing some pop with the bat. Ayers is hitting .377 in 77-at bats this season.

Villanova currently sits second in the BIG EAST behind first place DePaul (21-23, 11-3) who dropped two out of three to St. John's this past weekend. Butler is third place with an overall record of 25-20 and an 8-6 mark in conference play. Creighton rounds out the top four with a 7-6 conference record.

A Look at the Tigers

Towson enters play Tuesday at 30-13 overall with a record in CAA play of 7-7. This past weekend, the Tigers dropped two out of three to the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.

Shelby Stracher paces the Tigers potent offense as she leads the team in homeruns with 14, RBI's with 52, hits with 54, runs with 41, and average at .432. She does lead the CAA in homeruns, average, slugging percentage, and RBI's. Holiday Cahill has 34 RBI's and Brook Miko has 36.

As a team, Towson has slugged 52 homeruns.

On the pitching side, the Tigers can throw three pitchers who have had solid seasons this year. Blakely Thrower has a 7-1 record on the year with an ERA of 1.49 in 44.2 inning pitched. Ambar Hickman and Megan Dejter are the aces of the staff.

Hickman is 11-4 on the year with an ERA 2.99 and Dejter is 12-8 on the year with 62 strikeouts on the year.
