Philadelphia, Pa. - The Villanova softball team (16-13, 3-3 BIG EAST) has now won seven straight games following their 10-0 victory over Penn Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia.
The game was originally going to be played at Villanova, but was moved to Penn in wake of the men's basketball national championship game. Villanova was the home team and will be considered a home victory.
The 'Cats would explode in the bottom half of the first inning as Villanova plated nine runs on six hits in the inning.
It all started when Lauren Herschberg and Brittany Husk both walked to open the game. Dana Morris would load the bases with her single to left field bringing Nikki Alden to the plate.
Alden would RBI single to left field scoring Herschberg and Husk to give Villanova a 2-0 lead.
Chase Snell would lay down a sacrifice bunt advancing Morris to third and Alden to second with one out. Lauren Hann would then walk to load the bases for Aleshia Ayers who RBI singled to left field scoring Morris for a 3-0 VU lead.
Sierra McConnell would then draw an RBI on a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0 Villanova. Penn would make a pitching change but it wouldn't help as Stephanie Butler and Lauren Herschberg would both RBI single to increase the Wildcat lead to 6-0.
Husk would RBI single to left field scoring McConnell to make it 7-0 and Morris was then hit-by-a-pitch drawing in Butler for the 8-0 lead. Alden would then strikeout swinging but Herschberg scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-0 Villanova after one.
VU would tack on another run in the bottom of third inning to make it a 10-0 game.
Jordan Prutzer (3-1) was credited with the win. Prutzer went 3.0 innings giving up zero hits while striking out two. Brette Lawrence and Kalee Smith both pitched an inning each of shutout ball.
Villanova will return home this Saturday and Sunday with three games against Seton Hall. Saturday's games begin at 12:00 and 2:30. Sunday's game ins Youth Day at the Ballpark and will begin at 12:00.
