Wildcats Fall to Princeton 1-0 in First Road Game

In a close match where both teams saw excellent scoring opportunities, it was Princeton (2-0) who pulled out a 1-0 win over Villanova (1-2) at Robert's Stadium. The contest marked the Wildcats first road game of the season.

On national television, the Wildcats and the Tigers battled for the first 45 minutes of play as the two sides went into intermission knotted at 0-0. Villanova goalkeeper Emmalee Meyer (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered three saves in the period.

The tiebreaker in the 79th minute determined the contest when Princeton found the game-winning goal off a through ball. Samantha McDonough was able to pass the ball up field and it found Mimi Asom who was able to find the back of the net.

Villanova was led offensively by Emily Kuefler's two shots and by a five save performance by Meyers.

The Wildcats will return to action next weekend when they participate in the Duke Tournament in North Carolina. Villanova will face-off against Minnesota on Friday, September 2nd at 5:00 pm and then will play North Carolina on Sunday, September 4th game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
