VILLANOVA, Pa.--
Two of the hotter teams in CAA Football will meet for the first time this weekend when No. 17 Villanova (3-1, 1-0 CAA Football) travels to Elon (2-2, 1-0 CAA Football) for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday afternoon. Entering the game, the Wildcats are riding a three-game winning streak during which they have tallied an average margin of victory of 13.7 points. The host Phoenix meanwhile, are coming off consecutive double-digit victories and most recently notched a 27-10 win at then-No. 8 William & Mary in their first conference game of the season.

This is the third year in CAA Football for Elon but the first time that Villanova will face the Phoenix as part of the league's rotating schedule. The first-time foes are among the six teams that are currently 1-0 in conference play. Saturday's game can be heard live on the airwaves on 610 Sports WTEL-AM, with an audio stream of the broadcast available at villanova.com. Fans can also watch a free live video stream of the game via the link at the top of this release.

One of the keys to watch out for this week will be the Wildcats continued success running the ball. Senior tailback Javon White (Telford, Pa.) is tied for third in CAA Football with five rushing touchdowns on the year and he leads Villanova with 333 rushing yards through four games. Sophomore running back Aaron Forbes (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded his first career 100-yard rushing game against Lafayette last week when he ran for 111 yards on 11 carries, including a career-long 56-yard run.

White and Forbes both ran for touchdowns in last week's 31-14 win over the Leopards and the Wildcats surpassed 30 points for the second straight week. Villanova is 26-3 (.897) when putting at least 30 points on the board dating back to the start of the 2011 season.

An even bigger key to the win over Lafayette was the continued big-play capability of the Wildcats defense. Senior defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon (Ambler, Pa.), who is this week's CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, had a 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage at Lafayette and also tied career highs with three tackles for loss and two sacks in the game. Later in the contest, sophomore linebacker Jeff Steeb (Sweetwater, N.J.) returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.

Villanova has scored four defensive touchdowns through its first four games after not having any defensive scores in 11 contests last season. This marks the first time since 2000 that the Wildcats have recorded four defensive touchdowns in a season. In 2000, Villanova had three interception returns for scores and also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown.

In its conference opener last week, Elon recorded its first win over a top-10 opponent since 2007. Sophomore running back Malcolm Summers ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns as the Phoenix won their CAA Football opener for the second straight year. Summers leads the team with 258 rushing yards on the season, while senior kicker John Gallagher has a team-high 31 points. Gallagher is a perfect 8-of-8 on field goal attempts and 7-of-7 on point-after tries this season.

After playing their second straight road game, the Wildcats will return home to host Rhode Island on October 8 at Noon.
